In the year 1990, the Miss Cheongsam, a Chinese Beauty Pageant was founded and organized by Mr. Alaric Soh of Alaric's Productions Company in Kuching, Sarawak as an annual community and charitable event with the main objectives of ;
Since then, the Miss Cheongsam is the most glamorous, popular and unique Chinese Beauty Pageant in Malaysia, which is traditionally held every year with pomp and extravaganza of cultural and festive activities during the Chinese New Year on the eve of Chap Goh Mei, the 14th day of Chinese New Year. The Chinese New Year festival is widely celebrated by the Chinese communities which lasted for 15 days. The 1st and 15th days are known to be the most auspicious days of the festival. In the Chinese community worldwide, there are known to have more than 100 different Chinese dialects. In Sarawak, the commonly known Chinese dialects are Foo Chow, Hokkien, Hakka, Teo Chew, Heng Hwa, Hainan, Cantonese, etc. Every year, the Miss Cheongsam has been very successfully organised. The responds were overwhelming not only from the participants, but from the parents and the general public, especially the Chinese community in Sarawak were very supportive and encouraging towards this auspicious event. It has also attracted great deals of interest from the participants and the media from West Malaysia and Sabah. During the Miss Cheongsam, the participants will get; to represent their respective city or town, to parade in their own creation in Cheongsam wear, to speak in own mother tongue dialect, to showcase their talents, to visit places of interest in Sarawak, and to be part of the most popular, glamorous and prestigious beauty pageant for a good cause. There will be no swimwear require in the Miss Cheongsam Malaysia. All participants will be provided a round trip airtickets from their nearest airports to Kuching, hotel accommodation, three meals a day, and be well-taken care of by the organiser during the pageant. |
